Governance
Research Circle*
The Governance Research Circle brings together scholars
from law, public policy, and the social sciences in a cross-campus
research network to share ideas and findings concerning new
developments in governance at the state, national, and international
levels.
As economic borders become more porous, traditional methods
of regulating the economy, insuring against risk, protecting
the environment, and providing social justice may become
less effective. At the same time, new methods of dealing
with these challenges have emerged which may promise better
ways to create norms and produce public goods. The project
explores these new forms of governance and regulation, paying
special attention to flexible, decentralized, experimental,
and participatory modes.
Members conduct work in a diverse range of areas, including
employment, health, environment, social policy, and the regulation
of economic activities. Current areas of concentration include:
- New Governance for Social and Employment Policies
in the European Union
- Transnational Economic Regulatory Regimes
- Multi-level Governance and Constitutionalism in the
EU and the US
- New Approaches to Health Care Governance
in the US
- Transatlantic Dialogue on the New Environmental Regulation
The Collaborative supports the development of new courses and projects, sponsors
a variety of speakers, workshops, and conferences, and disseminates the knowledge
to the academic community and the public. We cooperate with other universities,
policy makers, and advocates in the European Union, the United States, and
elsewhere.
The Collaborative is a joint venture of the Center
for World Affairs and the Global Economy (WAGE), the Lafollette
School of Public Affairs, the European
Union Center and the Institute
for Legal Studies.
*Note: The Governance Research
Circle was previously known as the Wisconsin Governance Collaborative. |
