Applicants for a dissertation fellowship must be full-time graduate students who have achieved ABD status by the time the proposed research stay in Berlin begins. Also eligible are U.S. and Canadian Ph.D.s who have received their doctorates within the past two calendar years. information visit: http://userpage.fu-berlin.de/~bprogram/aboutb/aboutb.htm. All applications are due by November 30, 2006. The program's geographical reach includes the new states of Eurasia as well as Eastern European countries. The tremendous upheaval that this region has seen and continues to experience poses challenges for understanding societal transformations and also for existing modes of research and the training of a new generation of scholars. Researchers have to question the very notion of "region" given recent geo-political changes and have to avail themselves of resources and training that generally are assigned to different area studies departments. The Eurasia Program of the Social Science Research Council is currently accepting applications for its upcoming spring 2007 Dissertation Development Workshop, "Violence in Eurasia: Historical and Contemporary Approaches".This workshop will be held March 23-25, 2007 at Yale University. The Eurasia
Program Dissertation Development Workshops bring together 10-12 doctoral
students and 5-6 faculty participants for two to three days of intensive
critical discussion of the students' dissertation projects, as well as
larger theoretical and methodological issues. Graduate students in the
social sciences and related humanities, at any stage in their dissertation
projects, are eligible to apply. The
