AAUW University Scholar-in-Residence Award 2006-07 Deadlines:
Summary Applicants are asked to submit a letter (no more than three pages) describing the research project by Dec. 1. A small group of applicants are then selected to submit a full proposal, due Feb. 1. The final award is announced in May with funding beginning in July. Criteria for selection for the AAUW University Scholar-in-Residence Award are described below, along with more details about the application process. Criteria 1.Quality
of scholarship - This criterion includes the proposed scholar's
demonstrated expertise in research and writing and the originality of

2007-2008 Academic Year * All supporting documents must also be postmarked by this date. If an application postmark deadline falls on a weekend or holiday, supporting documents may be postmarked the next business day. International Fellowships are awarded for full-time study or research to women who are not United States citizens or permanent residents. Both graduate and postgraduate study at accredited institutions are supported. (For support at the undergraduate level, visit www.isep.org.) Six of the awards are available to members of International Federation of University Women affiliate organizations. These fellowship recipients may study in any country other than their own. The Foundation also awards several annual Home Country Project Grants ($5,000 to $7,000 each) to women who received AAUW Educational Foundation International Fellowships between 2001 and 2006. These grants support community-based projects designed to improve the lives of women and girls in the fellow's home country. An applicant must be qualified for admission to full-time graduate study
and working toward a graduate degree in the college or university of her
choice in the United States or Canada. Eligibility must be established
before application material is sent to applicants. Applicants must promise
to return to her own country to pursue her professional career. Doctoral
students who have completed course work and are working on dissertations
only are not eligible as first-time applicants. Additional financial resources
must be confirmed before receiving grants-in-aid. Scholarships are not
given for research, internships, nor for practical training. In order
to qualify for her first scholarship, an applicant must have a full year
of class work remaining and be enrolled and on campus for the entire school
year. A student who has received an AAUW grant will be ineligible for
an IPS scholarship during the same academic year. She will be eligible
to apply for an IPS scholarship for the following year. The applicant
must have her round trip or return travel expense guaranteed at the time
of application.
top Hansi Pollak Scholarship - postgraduate
research directed towards bettering social conditions in South Africa.
The recipient is required to spend at least two years in South Africa
after completing the degree, implementing the results of the research.
Every two years. Joan Whitmore Scholarship - postgraduate study or research in the broad field of engineering at a university or technikon. Applicants must show evidence of the relevance of their study or research to the development of South Africa, and of their community service. The Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund Grants For Women From Developing Countries The Margaret McNamara Memorial Fund (MMMF) was established in 1981 to honor the late Margaret McNamara and her commitment to the well-being of women and children in developing countries. The purpose of the grant is to support the education of women from developing countries who are committed to improving the lives of women and children in their home countries. Previous grant recipients were studying fields such as agriculture, architecture and urban planning, civil engineering, education, forestry, journalism, nursing, nutrition, pediatrics, public administration, public health, social sciences, and social work.
